Converting a 1978 Mercury 7.5 hp to charge batteries????

Hi knowledgable ones

I have a 1978 Mercury 7.5 hp outboard S/N 9169386 which was purchased from Morgans of Brightlingsea 2 months ago, so is in very good nick.

I am wondering whether any of you boffins can tell me:-

1/. Is it possible to convert it to charge batteries?

2/. How can it be done?

3/. Is it worth the cost / effort?
