Hi all, on my current project i am planning on installing thru-hull exhausts, and I was wondering what can I do to block the volvo 270's exhaust system.

Thanks for your help

I guess the 1st question is why on earth would you want to do this?

because i am repowering from a 4 banger to a V8. I have the ratio for the V8 but not the Y-pipe and matching transom shield.

Sounds like a fun and rewarding project is in your future.:)

FWIW, I used to run an 1967 AQ120a, similar to your AQ130, had good luck with it and led me to buy another Volvo (AQ260). The biggest difference, besides the bigger power of course, was how quiet my current V8 runs compared to the old 4 cyl. Everyone who rides in my boat notices how quiet the engine is. I guess my point is, if your into loud boats go for the thru hull, but if your just doing thru hull to solve the y pipe shortage, you may want to consider some more parts searching.

Either way I hope you will post your progress on the forum as you go through it. It's going to be a long winter for many of us.:)

I saw robjen1019 offered up a y pipe, now you just need the transum shield.

I know he went from a 4 cyl, to a V8. Maybe he could let us know if he found much difference in the noise level.

Good luck with whatever you choose to do.:D

Re: Converting a Volvo 270 to a thru-hull exhaust

I have about another two weekends of boating left here in California :(
My plan for the winter is to convert to V8 power. A friend locally has a Donzi Sweet 16 and I have fallen in love with it. So I am planning on customizing my 16' Tahiti to have a similar powertrain and interior layout. (The engine and interior needs work done on them anyway, plus I like unique things )

Well, thats the plan anyway
