Has anyone swapped a Mercruiser into an OMC? I am wondering about the size of the thru transom mostly then the motor and intermediate housing mounts. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

you'd have to rip out the whole transom and redo all of the wood work, as well as glass work on the outside of the hull. you will probably have to make at least new motor mounts on the inside, if not the whole stringer system on the boat.
Your better off finding a new boat.

Jason nailed it. A whole lotta work.

Is this a "classic" hull or just an older boat?

No, it's not a classic or anything special. Just an '83 celebrity. It is structurally in pretty good shape. I am just getting frustrated with the stringer omc, and started thinking about conversions.

you would be better off to sell it and buy another boat with either a VP or Merc drive.

It involves about the same amount of effort as it does to convert your boat into an airplane.
