I lost my steering rack housing in the Potomac river. So, my 70 pound foot-controlled cable become useless. The steering cable broke loose from the steering rack housing so I tried to troubleshoot it on the river - bad idea! I believe a bent shaft was the cause of a break loose cable. Here I am - doing a project - to convert this bow mount foot controlled TM to a wireless controlled TM. I have the wired PWM to vary the motor speed, so I only need to be able to change the direction of the trolling motor (TM). Here is what I plan to do, but I need help from you:
I need to know how to find the thread size of a worm drive shaft (best attached to a 12V motor wired or wireless controlled). I believe the worm drive is the set-up a wireless TM use to change the TM direction. Can somebody confirm this? I also need to find a bracket (maybe L bracket) to lock my worm drive motor inside the powerhead of the TM. I may go with the wired worm drive motor instead of wireless. It all depends on the price.

The wireless mechanical design is still a trade secret after I googled it. Here is history of TM design for hand and foot control to share with anyone who is interested in sharing the TM steering methods. I intend to build a DIY wireless TM.

My guess is it uses a wireless directional motor and worm gear drive to control the TM shaft to turn right or left.
