Converting Evinrude 60 to 70

I have a 1986 Evinrude 60. I believe it is identical to the 70 except for the carbs. And, I think the carb bodies are the same. Can I just put different jets into the carbs, probably adjust the timing, and boost the HP? Or am I missing the obvious??

Welcome to the iboats.com forum! The experts here which I am not can help you with any problem. A quick check of part numbers found the pistons are different between the two models which makes me believe the horsepower difference is achieved by design features other than the carbs. Good luck!

Save your $$$$ and be happy. You wouldn't notice that much difference in perfomance for the $$$$ spent.
