Re: converting new controls to old controls
Bombardier makes an adapter cable which will adapt a 96 and newer control box to a 1973-1995 engine. See your dealer. Ask them about part number 176711.
Since i have been in the "need to convert "stage myself before... I am thinking...
that your solution while a seemingly perfect one...is just what he doesnt want to do...
because..it involves running new cables under the floor from the console to the motor...
something that i read into his comments that he doesnt want to do!!!
I may be wrong of course..
then there are two styles of "adapter" i think..
one that splices in bewteen two other harnesses...
I have one...
and one that takes the place of the current harness but plugs into the appropriate spots
I have the newer control and the harness is running from the console down under the floor throigh pipes and out at the transom....and had the several individual connectors that mated to the post 96 motors connectors..
but when i put the older motor on I only hada red plug to hook to.
so my "adapter connected those individual connectors to the red plug...problem was the adpater was 12 feet long!!!
and i had to coil it out..BACK AT THE MOTOR!!!
not good!!
the adapters are different....because while one end they both have the red plug, the other end either goes directly to the control!!!
or it connects to all the individual connectors at the END of the harness from the control!!!
I think if they made( and they might) a harness adpater that fit in the harness run up near the control...it would see less water enviroment...
so for 96C to 95E connections you would use the full harness normally from an old control to the old motor, then at the control pulg in the adapter and install new controlls...
if you think about it, they probably made every combo possible!!!!
but if i have an extra loop of spare harness to coil up, id want it up inder the console..not back at the motor.
now if the op doesnt mind running a new harness under the floor... i miss read him and the harness solutions offered by others seems to be fine..
