Dad just went and picked up a Gm based 5.7. I know mercruiser's are black. Dad said this one is white, thats what makes me think it is o m c, it does have a 5.7 decal on it and is complete minus the exhaust manifolds I have not seen this motor as of just yet, but will later today.
First question other then swapping manifolds what else an I going to need to change in order to replace my motor? Is this an o m c motor or could it be an old school mercruiser? Any suggestions will be very useful. Thanks in advance. Andy

Everything but the long block. It could be a volvo also but your really can't go by color because it can be changed.

Ok. It is an omc motor. Motor it's self is blue. What is left of the out drive (more or less the gimble and part of the out drive) is whit decal on is say 1977. Every part of the engine and accessory parts are there except for the exhaust manifolds. Now I know some of the brackets will be different but not concerned with that. It looks like I aught to be able to place mercruiser manifolds on it and swap rest of my stuff over using this carb, my starter, alternator, and all that what not.... does any one for see an issue being so?

Alot of the stuff will swap, some of it will not. Use the omc long block with all of your merc stuff. Carb/intake may work from either one. Starter probably, and alt? ??? Power steering pump from merc.
