Converting simplex from 400 to 479 and ordering new cables

I took my simplex control apart today, and it indeed is and earlier model than the outboard 1980 E35ECSM and uses typ400 cables. Well, fortunately Teleflex still supplies typ 400 cables in the 6' and 7' length but is it possible to convert the dual lever control box from 400 cables to 479? Part numbers for the throttle and shift levers and casing guide inserts are different with no suppression chain, but would the casing guide for 479 cables fit the older control box?

I measured the length I need for the cables, the old ones were way over length, but is the length of the cable measured between the cable mounting points or end to end?

I'm sure it's possible to convert anything if you manufacture your own parts to accommodate the newer style cables, but the reality is they changed the control levers to handle the larger guide inserts, etc. Easiest way convert is to simply find a control box with the later style innards...

To answer your second question, measure from the ends of the brass guides, not the bowden wire...

Thanks, now I know better wether to order 6' or 7' cables. Well, it is best to forget about the conversion then as I plan to change the box to a single lever model eventually in an case, or perhaps the whole engine.
