I have an old boat with a 1969 Johnson 115hp. What is the possibility of converting to a small I/O. I have the space and the transome to fit it.

What is the weight difference?

If the glassing in of the motormounts fairly straight forward?

Any Major obstacles?

I am just considering it.

Let me know your pros and cons.

ajp,

I believe your question may get a better response in: Project Boats.

Moving there.

Re: Converting to an I/O

If the boat was designed for an outboard (light weight) the I/O may throw the weight distribution of the boat way off. Your 115 weighs about 325lbs (ballpark) and a 4cyl I/O (3.0 Volvo w/ sx drive, mercruiser would be similar) is 670lbs.

Having one outboard boat and one I/O, I would prefer the outboard. I find it easier to maneuver and maintain. It would be much less expensive aand tons easier to keep the outboard, or upgrade the OB to a newer model.
