has anyone done a conversion like this?
my pre-alpha has the trim switch/sensor located at the top of the ring/housing (and of course it's bad/broken) and was thinking of changing it over to the style that has the switch/sensors on the sides of the gimbal ring at the pivot pins.

has anyone done this change over?? if so, can you give some instructions and parts needed??

thanks

That switch on top of the gimbal ring is not the sensor, it is the trim limit switch....
If your trim pump shuts off at the top of the up/in cycle (fully raised), that switch is working fine.....
The sensor is located on the inside of the transom by(& connected to) the reverse lockout valve.....
That is where you need to look for loose connections...
It is a real Rube Goldberg kind of deal.....
The short answer is no, you cannot do what you are describing....;)
I'll post a pic of the device....

The sender unit for the trim gauge is not connected to the reverse lock valve. The electric side of the sender unit is connected to a small hydraulic, cylinder type, sender unit.

Both the electric sender and hydraulic unit are NLA but you may be able to source thru Ebay if yours are U/S
