cool fuel filter installation

Just changed my cool fuel filter and o-ring for the first time. Question- does the lid sit flush on the body when tightened down, so the oring is inside the body, or does the oring ride high in what seems to be the tapered opening? seems like the side closest to me is not all the way down and has a bit of o ring showing....

The filter cap should be firmly seated to the cool fuel module as you will see in the photo below. Lightly lubing the O-ring helps set it down easier. You have to kind of work it in there with a little effort as it's a tight fit with a new O-ring. The screw torque is 53 inch pounds. .

I repaired the link above with something better. It's now a 'How to change the fuel filter on a Gen 3 Cool Fuel unit compete with pictures.

Perfect! exactly what I was looking for!. I wound up coating o ring with 2 cycle oil and that helped quite a bit. Did not want to break the ears off the cover....
