We Reciently purchased a 1977 regal Cruiser with a 200 Horse Johnson outboard.
We got the motor running(been sitting for about 5 years) But we dont have any Water Coming out if the top ports. Our question is, Im sure it probably needs a water pump kit, However if the thermostat was stuck would this cause it not to let water come out of the top ports? Also where is the thermostat located. and does anyone have good desription of getting the lower unit off to get to the water pump, thanks a bunch fellas

Welcome to iBoats Bigtom.
You can learn a lot on iBoats but you're best to get a manual for your engine before disassembly. Even a manual that covers a range of Johnson motors is better than blind mechanics.

You did not say what year the engine is. The telltale water outlet in the lower cowl did not come out until 1978. Usually water will come out of the two exhaust relief ports at the top of the rear midsection. When underway, it should really pour out. If you don't know how new the impeller is, replace it before something gets overheated. You can also remove just the thermostat covers and check them out. Probably a good idea to replace the stats while you have it apart. Also, check out the pressure relief valves. They get deformed if overheated..
