I apologize in advance if this is a dumb question I am pretty new and have a 1994 OMC Cobra 5.0. Is it okay to start the engine with the stern drive removed (out of the water of course)? If so, where should I place the hose to cool the running engine while the stern drive is removed? Thanks.

Re: Cooling question

Yes it is OK to start and run for a short time. Longer times will melt the insides of the exhaust coupler hoses. If you want to run for longer, take the raw water hose of the thermostat housing and connect garden hose there.

Re: Cooling question

Being a 94 model, you could have either the older style Cobra with the raw water pump in the outdrive, or you could have the Cobra SX which has an engine driven raw water pump. If you have the latter, you MUST have water to the engine driven raw water pump or you will burn up it's impeller.
