Ahoy...Back again.
Winterizing my 1998 Stingray with a 3.0LX. All going well until I went to remove the main hose.
Clearly it had been a long time since it was last off. To make a long story short, the hose was bone dry and had rust. Removed the Thermostat housing and it was rust shut. Clearly no cooling water had been getting to the engine.
The 2 drain plugs on the right side back of the engine drained water and it was warm (had just warmed engine to drain oil)
My question is should I simply replace the thermostat or does the cooling system need cleaned? Can I fill it with something like CLR or drain cleaner? Or professional help needed?
The engine does seem to run fine, up to 46mph on a calm day, and maybe burns a quart of oil during the summer.
