Hello all:

I have a 18' 3.0l sterndrive open bow. Besides using the temperature gauge to verify engine temp, how can I verify that the impeller/water pump is working correctly and cooling the engine? Thanks

A couple of other things . . . on the muffs, with the engine not running, if you have the hose turned on water will flow out behind the muff "flaps", once you start it, that spray around the outside of the flaps should lessen significantly. Also, when running you should be able to put your hands on the exhaust manifold without getting burned. That definitely indicates that your pump is flowing water.

Also, I haven't seen them in a while, but I also haven't looked, but there is temperature tape that you can buy that changes colors at different temps. Usually sold in different ranges. You put one on the thermo housing etc. and they will record the highest temp they see. May have them at auto parts stores . . .
