Re: cooling system

Hi James. Are you sure the water pump impeller is good? Can you give us a little background on how you concluded that the cooling system is blocked? And a year or model number would be good also.

Thanks.

Re: cooling system

I think you're going to have to take something off. This is what I normally find with 3hp engines used in salt water:
There's two parallel cooling passages in the 3hp, and you have to make sure both are free. Typically, the worst blockage is where the cooling passage goes along the top of the block, and where it branches down into the cylinder area. To free it, you need to remove the exhaust cover plate, and go at it with a long drill bit. You'll likely need a new gasket to put it back on.
The next place I often see blockages is through the tiny hole at the bottom of the cylinder water jacket, where it empties into the water outlet on the bottom of the powerhead. To acess this passage, you must either remove the head or the entire powerhead. Again, new gaskets are likely needed.
The other passage goes along the top of the block, down the intake side and right out the bottom of the block.
It's important that both circuits be free, naturally.
