My Evinrude 40Hp model No BE40ELCR has a long piece of rubber pipe about 18 inches long coming off cooling water outlet on head it exits cowling and about 12 inches hangs loose, is this likely to cause any problems? what should be at outlet and can it still be purchased? The spark plugs in the engine are QL77JC4, I was given BR7HS and gentleman on iboats told me they were a cooler plug, now shop says try B9HS or B9HV, I am confused, I will try to get Champion but what are correct NGK ones? many thanks for help. JBD.

the correct heat range will be a BR9HS, however if your motor has oil injectionand you use carbon resisteor plugs(NGK) as opposed to inductive resistor plugs(champion) the alarm may get funny. the B7 plugs are slightly hotter than the B9's.

Many thanks Rodbolt, no injection! the motor is old 1984, but in first class condition and runs extremely well, if I can source Champion I'll stick to them but failing that will use NGK BR9HS, thank you. JBD

Can someone explain the basic difference between the NGK and Champion (Carbon resistor and inductive resistor), I have seen on iboats a comment that using NGK instead of Champion can even lead to damage, would using NGK if I can't get Champion make much difference? Thanks again, JBD.
