While fixing up some of the old outboards I have, a few of them have small holes in the copper gas line running from the tank to the carb. My question is, can i just grab my soldering iron and solder and just put some solder over the hole or what is a better fix?
Someone out their must have had to do this once and probably knows the best way to do this

You can either get a flare tool to flare your ends or you can get compression fittings and the copper line from the home improvement centers. I fixed an old 1952 merc that way, relatively cheap!

If there is a pin hole leak, how did it happen? If this just showed up, I would suspect there could be others working there way to the surface as well and therefore, I would replace the entire run the safe proper way. But that is how I look at things. Fixes are sometimes warranted but with fuel lines and things you seriously need to get back in to the boat ramp, I take more seriously. A few extra dollars now, saves lots of dollars and stress down the road later... JMHO!

I concur. Either find a good, used replacement, or make your own with hardware store fittings and line. I, too, have made some lines up over the years for various oldsters...

I don't know how it occurred. I recently got 15 1950's Johnsons from an auction and this one just had a small hole. Looked like this gas line had been bent and this was just a week place. It's on a 1953 Johnson 3hp
