Hay all, I am pretty new to boats and have just completed a full rebuild of my 16' Larson Cimmaron. I replaced the stringer, deck, seat boxes, etc... and now I am in the process of getting it all squared away for the summer. The previous owners must have LOVED accessories on this boat because there was a ton of extra wiring that didnt go to anything so I ripped it all out and just kept the wiring that went to the gauges. I unhooked the gauges to clean them and make sure the speedo worked and all but made a diagram so that I could reinstall it correctly. At the same time I installed a 4 switch breaker pannel to be used with the running lights, bildge pump and possibly at some point a radio. I am pretty savvy when it comes to wiring a car but I am at a bit of a loss as to woring this boat.
I have installed a bow and stern light, bildge pump and fish finder that I want to hook up to the switch pannel but am not sure how it all should go. I have done research and downloaded some diagrams and here is what I have so far:
Grounds from the bow, stern, and gauge lights connected to eachother as well as the power wires from all of these.
Power wire and ground wire ran for the bildge pump
Power wire and ground wire ran for the fish finder
I have the instructions for the switch pannel showing a positive to one side and a negative wire to the other and I am guessing that the wires would be the same as a car. + being a 12V switched and the ground to a buss bar from the batter. Correct?
What I am trying to find out is.... should I run a single ground from the battery to the buss bar then all of the accessory grounds to that bar including the negative from the ignition switch?
Should the 12V switched to the switch pannel come from the ignition switch? if so, where does the ignition switch get its power from? the circuit throught the outboard?
I wish I could post up a drawing for visual reference but I am not sure how. I can make one up on paint if someone would let me know how to post it. I know that this post might be confusing and I can answer all the questions anyone might have. Thanks for the help.
