I am having trouble with the risers I put on my 34' wellcraft st.tropez. I have installed a rebuilt 7.4 which is a genV and put the risers and manifold from the old motor, which were new with 10 hours on them. When I filled the closed cooling system with anti freeze the coolant ran out the exhaust. I removed the heat exchanger and had it checked, it's fine. When I installed the manifolds and risers I used a kit I purchased from OMC, which was supposedly for these manifolds. The riser gaskets were open on all sides, which I suspect is the issue. I think the riser gaskets should be closed. I stopped at west marine and was told the riser gaskets should be the ones with the restrictor hole, not completely closed. However I think if I use the gasket with the restrictor hole i still will have coolant exiting out the exhaust. I'm pretty handy but this has got me confused. Does anyone know which riser gasket is the correct one.

Firstly, this is the Mercruiser forum, not OMC... And you are right, the gaskets should be fully blocking. Any hole and the coolant will, you guessed it, run out the exhaust....

If your exaust manifolds were FWC you need the SS block-off plate and use any kind of gasket above and below the block off plate.
I`m guessing you old motor was not FWC.

Osco OSC8503GB
The above are listed as gaskets, the SS is from Barr
