well before either 1964 or 1963 it was like 24:1 or 25:1, like a quart per 6 gallons or something. so 50:1 is what you need. my 1985 8hp has a 100:1 sticker but from what I've read up on you need to run 50:1. something about it being fine at low speed but not at continuous high speeds so they revised it and the 50:1 sticker supposed to replace the 100:1. others on here can confirm this or give a little better info

It is better to have more oil then not enough. If the mixture is strong the worst that happens is plug fouling, if the mixture is too weak then parts begain to fly. I agree with the above posts, allthough I like to use a 40:1 in my 75 15hp same thing in my lightwin 4hp. I have been running the lightwin for over 10 years this way and have never had 1 problem. I have only owned the 15hp for a little over a year but it seems to run just fine this way also. The reason I use the 40:1 is because that is what the weed eater chain saw etc.. take. I figure just mix everything the same and I don't have to worry about unused fuel at the end of the season.
