Hello again, I was talking with some recently, trying to figure out he right prop size for my merc 1988 150 blk max. This motor has a low water intake on the point of the lower unit. Would the height of the cavitation plate result in loss of speed. My wot at 6,000 rpm's in only 40 mph. this is with a 21p aluminum prop. I bought a new stainless merc 23p prop that I haven't used yet. Do you think I will gain more speed while lowering my rpms?
thank you
nick
And does anyone know where I can purchase a nose cone for this lower unit to flush it???

In theory, the 23" should drop your rpm by 400 rpm.

Post back with your WOT RPM with the 23p prop. If you can still spin that 23 at 6000, keep moving up. What boat do you have this on? Most cavitation plates end up running about 1 to 2 inches above the keel line(even more if you have a notched transom).
