Hello,
I have a 4.3Litre 175hp Mercruiser with an Alpha One Gen One 1.84R on my 18 foot 1989 Celebrity. I banged up the prop today and ordered an new one from Iboats.

I ordered a Turning Point Hustler Alum 14-1/4x23 with hub kit. (H-1423) I hope my edjucated guess it right in picking that one. From what I can measure it looks like the old one was a 13.5-14 diameter.
Thanks,
I already ordered it....

Re: Correct Prop?

Your diameter should do fine...but, how did you determine the pitch?

Are you going by your old one? The real answer will be your WOT rpm's, using a load similiar to what you normally run.

For instance: a plain Jane OEM aluminum 23" prop would probably be best replaced with a 21" newer styled progressive pitched prop. Reason is that the progressive pitching of a 21" gives you a useable pitch range of 19" to 23", depending on the load demands at the moment. Without researcing the Hustler, can you tell us if this is a progressive pitched prop?

Re: Correct Prop?

Diameter is essentially a meaningless dimension and won't help you get the correct prop.

23 sounds like a lot of pitch for a boat like that. Was your old prop a 23 pitch?

Re: Correct Prop?

I used the "wizard" on the TP website. The only thing I had to kind of guess at was the fuel question. I tried a few and the 1423 kept coming back.

Oh yeah, I also put in 2 people in the wizard. I am only going to be out by myself, maybe with a friend. Or with my wife and 2yr old and 5yr old. No water skiing.

Sounds like you are on the right track.

Let us know how your WOT rpm's turn out...that will be the real answer.

Happy boating!

Re: Correct Prop?

I use the boat on the lake and it has 45mph speed limit. I have not pushed to WOT and been going 30-35. My RPMs have been around 3k.

Your max rpm's are "4400-4800".

You should be able to get there without breaking any laws...assuming that you have the space!

Happy boating!

Re: Correct Prop?

FWIW their prop wizard recommends a 23 for my boat as well. It was wrong. My boat could NEVER push a 23. Mine needed a 20.

Do they permit propeller exchange if you selected too high of a pitch?

Re: Correct Prop?

I run a 4 blade 17p on my 4.3 17 footer. Get about 45mph at 4800rpm. The 23 is prolly going to be too much prop...
