I have a 1998 115 HP Johnson J115TSLECM. My tach is operating for a short time, then it goes to zero. After a while, the tach will work again. I checked the voltage on my battery with a digital volt meter while the tach was operating properly and the battery was climbing in voltage. As soon as the tach bottomed out to zero, I checked the battery again and it was slowly discharging. I assume I have a faulty rectifier. I pulled it off (removed the positive post from battery) and I think it is the WRONG rectifier. The part number on it is 511938. It is a three wire ( two yellow; one red) rectifier. I started checking part numbers for my model number and I THINK the correct three wire rectifier is suppose to be a 583408. Could someone please help me.... Am I assuming correctly that I have a rectifier problem?---- which is the correct part number for my engine? Thanks for any professional help.
