Hello,

I am just about ready to break in a rebuilt power head on a 1998 Evinrude 115 Special. It's the crossflow or bubble back engine.

What is the correct spark plug to use for break in and which plug to use after that.

Thank you

I have never heard of running a special plug for break in. I have always just used the recommended plug.

I thought it would be better to use a plug one step hotter than required. What is the "normal" plug required. No VRO pump.

According to the parts manual I looked at (not knowing your model number), listed a QL78YC as the proper plug.

FYI;

I have twin 250 Etecs on my other boat and while I was at the dealer he recommended QL78YC during break in as it is one step hotter. After that using QL77JC4 or stay with the hotter as it will help if you do allot of slow speed or idle.
