'95 suzuki DT30c is running beautifully but is a real pain to start - I usually end up flattening the battery. The motor is equipped with a throttle sensor valve which does the timing automatically, and my mechanic says DONT use the warm-up lever, just choke it when cold and turn until you get a cough and start or if not then use the warm-up lever and choke on the second attempt.

Does this sound right? I have been using the warm-up lever everytime I start it and it takes a good 30 cranks to get it to fire, with a horrible almighty cold-rev-up and clod of blue smoke!!!... then it runs fine all day.

I don't have the factory user manual to verify the correct procedure reccommended, so grateful for any assistance.

No it does not ..... this is how it should go ..... pump fuel bulb till nice and firm ...... then push the warm up leaver to it's max ..... push the choke in and turn key keeping the choke pushed in, turning for about 5 seconds at a time max ... it should take about 3 tries till she fires up .... the moment it fires you must close the warm up leaver, before she revs too high ..... don't worry about the smoke, they do that .....

Thanks for that, Have done a few experiments regarding this and yes, he is sort of right i'm thinking... Tried a cold start this morning with no warm-up lever and full choke while cranking - it cranked for approx 10 seconds and SLOWLY began to burble and fire up, then died. I then tried a wee bit of throttle lever next crank with no choke and away she went. I think I may have been flooding it previously? Is yours a manual or remote start DJCEE?

I HATE giving it full revs with the lever on a cold start - sounds lke she's gonna destruct! Man I wish I had a factory owners manual to read the reccommended procedure - Suzuki SHOULD at least make them available online like most other manufactuers.

i have many suzuki's, manual and remote, and I start them all the same .... then don't keep the warm up lever at max just about half throttle ......
