1987 VP AQ-260 (GM 350ci) coupled to a AQ-275 VP outdrive. Installed a San Juan closed cooling system (half-system) on the replacement engine two years ago.

I've read a couple of posts about low temperature thermostats leading to less than ideal engine performance and was wondering if I have the correct thermostat in my engine. My engine currently runs at about 165 degrees. Should it run hotter with a closed cooling system? What would be the advantages and disadvantages of a hotter running engine?
Thanks in advance,
Andy

I believe you should put hotter unit in it. 180-190* range. Your motor will run more efficiently. I run 165* and my system is all raw water.
