Corroded Wires on Stator Being Spliced Need Advice

!985 75H.P. Merc starts up good and runs,,but I noticed the stator wires corroded and I went to my merc marina and the parts man said because the enging starts and runs he would recommend I just splice new wires with connectors,,,I just want to know is there special wire I need to use,and what would the name of it be.

I would just buy some 18 gauge wire from walmart and solder to what is left of your wire. Heat shrink it and go boatin'
