i have a 20' wellcraft with an I/O and the hydrolic lines coming from the cylinders that raise and lower the outdrive come into a bracket that attaches to the two that come from the inside fo the boat and it keeps corroading around the two that are on the sid eof the bracket that does not go in the water. it is stainless steel lines going into an aluminum brack(i think) and it corroads it away as if it is picking up a charge. what could the possible be and how could i possible prevent this from occuring again? thanks for any possible solutions.

And the answer is, It's a Mercruiser anode. :D

Love the pic, thanks KaGee :D :D

Sounds like you have a pre 91 Mercruiser Alpha I drive. Next to the transom, attached to the transom shield is an anode that corrodes away (it's supposed to) to prevent the aluminum drive from corroding away first. These usually get change at least yearly on boats that spend much time in the water.

checked anodes and they are fine and the corrosion only happens around the lines that are inside of teh outdrive and not around the ones that are exposed to the open water. Does anybody have any possible solutions.

Slathering it with Grease,..........

While it probably won't Stop the corrosion.......
It'll Slow it Way Down,... Just by keeping it from getting Wet.........

it dosen't get wet because it is the side that is on the inside and there is even a gasket to keep the water out.

try grounding them to the engine and make sure the "fine" anode is making good electrial contact with whatever its attached to..

bondos grease idea aint a bad one either..

trog100

Are You saying that there's NEVER Any bilge water in Your Boat ??...????

I realize that you're talking about the "Dry-side" of the Hyd. manifold,.............
But,... I My Book,..... That's Still a Very Wet Enviroment........After All,... That's the Lowest point in the transom assembley......

Possibly,..... trog is onto something,.....
Maybe with the gasket,+ an over Gubbering of sealant,.... Maybe the manifold is No Longer Grounded to the rest of the drive.....
Isn't there 1 of those little grounding straps on 1 of the nuts holding the manifold ??

You might want to pick up Mercruisers CONTINUITY KIT part #99940A 1 - this includes a pigtail to connect the hydraulic mount plate to ground point and should help the issue- stainless and aluminum create current immersed in salt- so having this kit should help.. it is cheap too at ~$15- good luck
