In the step below from Don S winterizing post what does everyone use for this?

Does everything mean the entire engine block? Mine is pretty clean and I'm worried about attracting dirt, its only used in fresh water btw.

"15. Spray your favorite corrosion blocker on everything (except fiberglass).including the battery terminals. Turn the steering so most of the rod is extended, make sure it's clean and spray it with a light oil, turn it back and forth a few times spraying in between so it's well lubed."

I don't spray mine down just for the reason you gave. The steering rod already has a coat of grease on it. I'm guessing it's a saltwater thing. If your car is anywhere near the ocean/gulf it gets film of salt dust on it. I'm assuming it's the same for boats...

I love the "similar threads" feature of this board. Can be a little embarassing for the OP but in some cases it seems to be better than the search feature.

If your boat is stored outside you will be amazed how much condensation forms on it. At least in our neck of the woods. I spray mine with fogging oil, and wipe it around. Before starting in the spring I wipe it all down. I have not had any grime build up.

Very true! Spray the entire engine with a light mist...keeps things from rusting.
Come spring you can always spray it with a citrus cleaner and wash off the oil.Makes the bilge smell good too...;)

Re: Corrosion Blocker during Winterizing?

I do spray everything with Boeshield or Corroxion X since we are in a damp climate with temp changes that result in a lot of condensation...I also have sprayed Corrosion X HD on the oil pan (couple of coats) which has really helped with the pan not rusting...for the steering ram I coat that with OMC triple guard grease (best water proof grease there is....sticks on a prop shaft the whole season in salt water)....dust and dirt are not that much of a problem in boats...corrosion is.....rust never sleeps...
When you get a chance one day...take a look at the bottom of your oil pan with a mirror.....

The boat I just bought has never been in salt water before.
However, there is one spot rusted thru on the valve rocker arm cover.
She is 32 years old...but anyways.
I like corrosion blocker on my truck engine as well.
