Corrosion -- brass to stainless

OK, I just replaced a 'through the bulkhead' fuel line connector..... The connector is brass and is mounted on a stainless steel mounting plate which is mounted to the fiberglass wall.....<br /><br />Am I gonna have a corrosion problem because of the dissimilar metals????? I know that if it were steel I would have a problem......with stainless, I don't think so ...... but will listen to advice....<br /><br />Thanks

I must not have made myself very clear......sorry......<br /><br />My concern is the electrolysis that occurs between joined disimilar metals and the resultant corrosion.......I know if I joined brass with steel or aluminum, I'd get corroded.....But with stainless steel, I don't think so but am not sure....<br /><br />The one thing I'm sure of-----I don't want to discover that I do have a problem when alone and 25 miles out......Therefore I went to Ace HW and invested .99 in a nylon emergency replacement device......

acc, yes their is galvanic potential between SS and brass. If your in freshwater it won't be significant, but if its directly exposed to saltwater environment it will corrode. Which metal gives up depends on which particular SS alloy the plate is (there's several). An option to negate the corrosion is if you can manufacture a rubber or nylon gasket to separate the two metals from direct contact acting as an insulator (keep in mind any fasteners that may also join both dissimilar metals). Thanks Captain Jim,<br /><br />This is my saltwater boat so I'm gonna spray it with silicon then watch it...<br /><br />When I have a problem, I'll disassemble and refix it.......sort of like 'I'm just gonna do it 'till I need glasses'.....

Ahh yes. Galvanic action.<br /> Hinges on a JEEP. <br /> Spot welds on a FORD.<br /> Aluminum wireing in houses.
