Corrosion factor

Can I use grade 8 steel bolts in place of the stainless steel bolts used to hold the parts of my jet unit (On a 1990 3 cyl 75 hp Merc) together?

I have. Grade 8 takes a long time to rust in my opinion..... at least in freshwater. If you are going saltwater I wouldnt do it. AND if you scratch that coating AT ALL, it WILL rust. Catch my drift?

Don't be silly, or CHEAP. use SS bolts. You are just asking for trouble Down the road.
