What do ya'll use on the powerhead for corrosion protection? Corrosion-X is gettin' a little pricey. Are there many alternatives? Something safe for electrical, paint and hoses?

Use a pure silicone spray for best results.

An oil base spray like WD 40 will affect the wiring, hoses, and rubber parts after a while. I've seen spark plug wires swollen up like sausages from too much "protection".

A sticky or oily coating will also attract and hold dirt and grime.

Re: corrosion inhibitor

Interesting topic...It may be different now but in past years there were warnings on silicone sprays about them attacking plastics. I used silicone and teflon sprays on motorcycles (because it was dry and didn't collect dirt) a long time ago but never had bikes long enough to see damage.

I started using CRC on ob motors after speaking with their factory techs. According to them, 2-26 is a light mineral oil and it doesn't harm plastics like WD40 and their own CRC 6-56 can (they say DO NOT use their 6-56 on rubber as seen in use at many marine stores). I have two motors purchased new to benchmark against with 2-26...1991 & 1996. Since new, both get a full flood coat of 2-26 annually. They are saltwater motors and still look almost showroom condition under the hood. Both are still 100% original and none of the wires/plastic is brittle or dried out like WD40 types do. The mineral oil dries to a non sticky film and dirt collection doesn't happen. I use one can per motor from powerhead to tip of skeg and get them dripping wet.
