I have a Minn Kota Power Drive with co-pilot remotes. there's a male/female connection plug where the trolling motor connects to the co-pilot/foot pedal that gets corroded. Is there a product that is made for marine electrical connections that will help prevent corrosion?

Re: Corrosion

The electrical grease or di-electric grease is usually available from an auto parts store. Regardless of where you buy it, ask if there's another choice. Ot one parts store I frequent they have no less than four different products from three different manufacturers. It can get very expensive. I usually get a large tube and it costs me $8-$9.00. Meanwhile, if I just tell the counter person I need dieelctric, I get a tiny tube for $4.00.

But di-electric grease is a special silicone grease. It will prevent water intrusion and consequently stave off corrosion. The connections must be clean and dry first however, because the grease does not displace water. Use this stuff and forget about corrosion. You will probably hav eto reapply it periodically also. Good luck and happy fishing.

I always use a touch of 'wd-40' Wire Dryer to clean the connections, then a shot of di-electric greas as mentioned above . . . both are available at the local AutoZone or Pep-Boys.

Re: Corrosion

PS - In a pinch, I have used di-electric grease that I happened to have sitting in my trunk to re-lubricate the interior of one of my spinning reels, and it smoothed it right out and ran like magic, AND with the added benefit of interor corrosion protection ;)
