I'm pretty new to the boating world and to this site..
I traded an old dirt bike I had sitting in my shed for 7 years to a buddy for a 1984 19 foot Starcraft bow rider. Motor and outdrive and trailer are fine he used it last season before he got a bigger boat, but It looks like the floor needs some work.
At some point someone did some? patch work? on it putting down some new plywood in some spots?I never even knew about marine grade plywood until I starded reading here so who knows what they used?
From reading on this site and wanting to keep the boat safe looks like I?m going to be tearing it all up checking the stringers, transom and foam and replacing if necessary?I would much rather be safe than sorry.
The biggest question I have is cost. From doing some extensive reading on the how?s on this site I gather it?s a pretty labor intensive job so I plan on dragging the kids away from the Xbox and making it a family project that we can all learn foam and enjoy this as a witer project so we can be ready for next season.
If I go worst case since most of my projects usually do? and let say I have to replace stringers, transom ect.. refoam ect?.what is the ball park cost of redoing this deck?...the motor mounts and everything in the engine compartment are fine I see no soft spots or rot so I do not plan on pulling the motor.
I don?t want carpet?so whatever finish I end up with on the deck I want something that I can just hose down,
Any input would be appreciated and I?m sure I will be asking lots of questions as I go along...i'll start a photo log of my progress also people here seem to enjoy them and give hepful comments.
