I received a quote from a local guy who does work on older engines. Does 300 dollars sound out of the park to install all the the seals that come with Mercury's lower unit seal kit. This is for a 1969 Mercury 800 engine. This price includes the seal kit. I just don't know if I'm up to doing this type of job. Thanks.

job is maybe a 2 hour job, but there is the consideration that the bearing carrier may not just jump out on its own, increasing the time by an hour or so...

That probably also includes an impeller, w/p housing, and gear lube in the price..

you can do it yourself if you buy a manual

But it will still be a tough job

$300 sounds like to much.. Thats $600 AUS

Over here they charge us $300-$400 AUS

I'm paying $225 to $250 for a reseal on a 73 Merc 500, 50 hp. Two hours labor at $70 a pop, seal kit and resurfacing drive shaft. $300 ain't bad if they guarantee the work.
