Re: Cost of Reupholstery

depends a bunch on time of year and where you go.

could be anywhere from $1500 to $3k depending on what you want.

if you can find someone who works out of their own shop vs a shop with overhead, you should be able to save a ton. the off season should be cheaper too.

Re: Cost of Reupholstery

Thanks guys. I have a call in with a local company to get an estimate. Sounds like I could spend 1-2K easily. The carpet needs replaced as well so I'm guessing it could add up over 2K.

If the interior is that bad then that probably says a lot about how the boat was treated overal right?

uasually....yes......if ther is just wear rips on an older boat thats ok....but if it is obvious weather wear, then that means the boat was stored outside......possibly with no cover......

then that means a whole can of worms like a possible rotten floor, stringers, and a transom. (not nessarily....put a very real chance)

are you looking at buying this boat?

Re: Cost of Reupholstery

thats what it sounded like from your post......

ok....here we go......

if you can......find a boat that has been garage stored.....it makes a big difference......or one that the owner is anal about........ive seen thirty year old boats in better shape the 5 year old ones.....

if you take the time to read here on this forum....you can learn a tremendous amount about what to look for....

if you are really unsure......hire a marine surveyor......its worth it.....

if you cant hire one......post back here with detailed pics of your candidate boat.....(start a new thread) and we can spot potential toruble sopts for you...

also....just a few things to stay away from........most older bayliners.....anything with an omc leg....a force outboard motor....

amd anything with water marks halfway up the inside of the hull

cheers

Re: Cost of Reupholstery

I got a quote from the factory for my 1988 bowrider (checkmate) today.

For 1900 they'll ship me a complete interior, made from the original templates, in the original three colors, light grey with black and red striping, coordinated fabric covered oval buttons, welting on the edging, etc... including all the wood, new fiberglass bucket seats (nice, like the originals I have now, foam and vinyl covered), everything with new foam and vinyl already installed on the wood, t-bolts installed, ready to bolt in in an hour or so.

it would be about half that to have them sew a complete set of vinyl skins for it, but for that much I'm real tempted to just go the whole nine yards...

I've already replaced and sealed the floor, stringers, flotation boxes, engine mounts, painted where needed (bottom) including rubberized nonskid on the deck and matching light gray paint on the interior sides... Engine and drive train are almost all new and working great, so the interior would finish it off and get rid of some of that redneck yatch club - torn, faded upholstery, loud choppy exhaust, like a beat up old nova with a smallblock that costs more than my trailer kind of thing.... right now all I'm missing is the rebel flag and coon dog (not that I have anything against all of the above...)

Hopefully that's a reference point.
