Maybe this should be in engine topics, but everyone out here knows me and my situation.

I probably should have done this before, but better late than never.

JUST IN CASE!

The people sueing me claim that their mechanic qouted them 3,500 to fix the "boat that busted". Don't know if that was to drop a rebuilt in, or pull this one and rebuild it, or what. I do remember seeing that engine, brand new on ebay for 2900 plus shipping, so 3,500 seems steep.

I know prices and labor will very by region, but what do you think the worst case would be to get the boat running with some decent replacement or repair?

Oh, it was a mercruiser 488, 3.7L inline 4.

Thanks for your comments.

I printed this out and will take it with me:http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-...emQQcategoryZ50442QQihZ015QQitemZ250178091866

Just in case. I know it's not a 3.7 L, but it's new and only 2K. They have a new 4.3L for 300 more.

Guess my point is for 3500 you could get a brand new engine with room to spare. The boat did NOT have a brand new engine when I sold it. There was 2 years on a rebuilt.

At a real shop, figure a couple of days of labor at $80 an hour or so plus the cost of the engine. I could easily see the $3500.

I read through your other thread...

Bring some rubber bands and duct tape and tell them good luck with the repairs;)

If it helps for some comparison: I flipped my 4.3 litre OMC three years ago because of a cracked block. I bought the long block from a small but long-time successful shop here in Syracuse for 1.7k. I found a guy (we're good friend today since we met) there who flipped marine engines on the side. Every thing said, I paid 2.7k for the job.
