I wonder why they didn't just mail replacements? Sunglasses can't be that expensive to manufacture.

Agreed. Mauis are the only sunglasses I wear. Years ago, I was wearing the first pair I ever bought (have three now) while riding my motorcycle. Somehow something flew in the exact trajectory to make it over my windshield and smack me in the face. All of a sudden, my glasses were hanging around my neck, one arm was broken off the lens frame with that lens missing, and the other lens was shattered, The short story is that they completely protected my eyes. I sent them in to Maui with a letter of praise and went and bought a new pair. Out of the blue, as I expected to not hear back from them, I get a package about 2 weeks later and it contains a letter thanking me for sending them in, my old destroyed glasses, and a new pair of the exact same model. I was quite surprised!

I can only see out of one eye (birth defect) so eye protection is important to me. I wear Oakleys. You can shoot them with a shotgun and the lenses will only dimple. They're expensive, but I wear them every day for 3 or 4 years before I get new ones so I get my money's worth. I buy them at my local Honda motorcycle dealer. They handle all the customer support/warranty stuff right there in the store.

I was going to say, I also use Oakley.
Oil Drum is my choice of regular sunglasses.
Radar Path in my prescription glasses.
Pricey, but worth it.

When I worked at a motorcycle dealership the oakly's have a 50% mark up..... and do not believe that they will protect you from a shotgun.... the shotgun blast will just drive them right into your head and maybe through it!!! :D Yes, they are safety rated.

There was an article in American Hunter about a year ago testing sunglasses for stopping BB's from a shotgun blast. Some of the best performers were the $10 & $15 glasses... Wish I could find that article ...

Only if the shot is moving fast enough to escape the force of gravity.:p:p:p

At what range would be my question...

But hey, if you ride a bike, then anything that protects your eyes from flying debris or pebbles is well worth any price, and as long as it does that, then it's done enough.
