I have just began to put back my lower unit in my 69' johnson 85hp after replacing my impeller, seals, o rings , needle bearing and solenoid housing gasket and I am wondering if I could use a substitute for OMC 1000 sealent (recommended by my manual )because my local Marine store only has huge sizes because they are plumb out of the small ones. they are very costly considering my the small amount I really need:(

Anyone know of any substitues that are suitable for the job?

Any suggestions would be much appriciated, thanks.

It really doesn't matter in the areas that you are working on. Most any gasket cement will do the job.

If you are speaking of the seam where the gearcase fits up to the midsection, it doesn't even matter if it leaks there. It just looks bad and worries people. Anything that comes out there was heading for discharge underwater anyway.

Hey thanks. So most gasket cements are waterproof. Ok I feel confident now that I can get this thing done this weekend. See you out there!:D
