Can anyone tell me if it is possible to convert an Alpha I standard rotation outdrive to counter rotation?.I have twin Chevy 350's in a 23 foot formula. Both engines are standard rotation (Steers hard to the left.) Do I need a counter rotating outdrive? Or can I reverse the shift cable on the left engine and put a LH prop on it or change the lower unit or something? (Do't want to purchase awhole new outdrive)

Re: Counter rotation

the only way to get counter rotation with and alpha drive is to switch the lower gear housing. do not shift it backwards with left handed prop!!!! the drive will not survive.

Ill second that merctech.. The reverse gear bearing is not made to withstand that kind of load.. Youd shell it pretty quick

Re: Counter rotation

Do you have Hydrualic steering ? If you do get it fixed because you shouldn't have any feedback with hyd.If you don't ,spend your money on that instead.Merc Alpha counter drives are weak and cost more to fix.
