First there was oil, regular old 30w motor oil. mixed in the gas.
Then, as they learned more about 2 cycle motors, and oil, they developed tcw oil.
After further improvements, the new standard was called tcw-2
We are now on the third refinement, tcw-3.

I would think you could use the old tcw oil, but if you have any doubts, don't use it. It isn't up to the current oil standards.

No problem with the synthetic Pennzoil tcw-3.
Been using synthetic in my Force for 3 years.

I don't think quality tcw rated synthetic oils were available when your motor was made, therefore the warning in the manual.

I get much less smoke from the synthetic, and the plugs stay clean too.

The cover over the carbs basically catches any spilled fuel that runs out of the carbs when the motor is tilted up. You can clean it out.
