I have a new to me 1991 260 Proline WA that has twin 1996 Yamaha Saltwater Series 130's. Both engines are in fantastic shape (thus my questions below as I want to keep them in this condition).
The oil tanks are both full. Is there anything special that I need to do to winterize the oil tanks?
The gas tank is only partially filled (maybe >25 of 150 gallons). I know I should store it over the winter with a full tank, however, the trailer is in the process of being rehabilitated with brakes (never had them before and I feel that a boat this size the trailer should have them so it's getting them). Should I just add 10-20 more gallons and ensure I compensate with a good stabilizer? If so, which one is the most recommended. I picked up both Sta-bil and the newer stuff from Starbrite while at west marine earlier...both are for E-10...Stabil notes it prevents the breaking down of the gas whereas the Starbrite statues it prevents the phase change of the E10 to prevent breakdown of the gas for longer periods of storage.
Fogging the engine...I bought starbrite...I'm guessing that I fun the engines as normal and then spray the fogging into the carb and kill the fuel supply and let the engines sputter then shut them down. Do I also need to (as with an I/O) pull the plugs and spray the cylinders and then turn over the engine a few times to coat the cyl. walls?
I know Yamaha mades a lower unit oil, but are there differences between Yamaha and other manufactures? Do I need synthetic, semi-synthetic (assuming there is one), or a standard?
Thanks in advance.
