Hello I am new to the boat owner ship but I am a do it myself kind of guy so I am looking for some advice.

I have a 1988 bayliner bass trophy with a 125 hp force motor.
Q 1 - took it to a friend who owns a boat shop and he said he would check it out for free so he checked oit the motor whicg seemed to run fine and said it was sucking air in small spot around the crank cover. He said he would need to take power head off and tear it aprt to replace the gel gasket and it would cost $300-400. Is this a big problem? Can I not put gel gasket around the edge? Is this a typical cost for $5 gel gasket?

Q 2 - i need to hook up a motor guide trolling motor foot fed that already installed but not attached to a battery. there r 3 wires that run to the back right side of a boat opposit of the motor battery. the wires are black, yellowish/white, & green which is connected to a small box laying loose in there. So is that all the wires needed?

Q 3 - Most important. The tilt/trim went out on our first trip n the water. After pulling out of the water we realized the pump was still working but the brace at the bottom of the boat was broke. looks to have had a pin going thru 2 holes which broke and lost the pin. Can I replace theis plate bracket. I have already removed it just not sure what its called (I looked on forums and websites). Can I fix this brace? or can i flip it (since bolts line up) drill 2 new holes and go from there?

Any advice is greatly appreciated Thanks.

Re: couple questions

Always include model and serial#s
Pictures are a BIG help too.

#1 sucking air is a very important thing to fix.
You sure it's leaking? Just fill it with silicone.Lots of silicone.
Pictures of the leak area??
The labor is a BUNCH to replace the seal. That's why it's 400.

#2 I believe the trolling motor needs a bigger lead? The small wires won't be heavy enough to handle the current/draw.
pics?? Find out what the wores are for and where they go?

#3The trim,the 2 studs and 1 THREADED hole.
You can use a 1/4-20 bolt and nut or any way to secure it.
If it broke loose,it still should operate the pump. It's just hanging there but still working.
The part transom bracket can be replaced. There are 2 models so if your gonna replace get the right one.

thanks for the help. The 3 wires from the trolling motor are not small sorry i miss qouted that. i guess if its typical electrical then the black is hot, the white is neg, & the green is the ground.

Also i have pics just tring to get them on the cpu to get uploaded.

what is the small box that some of the wires r connected to? Is this a type of breaker?

Re: couple questions

That's house current wiring.
The boat systems usually the black is ground.
Green or white could be positive.
You'll have to decide.
What's the box you mentioned?
Usually the pics need to be resized.
Right click on the pic. Go to resize.then a screen pops up.
Then the size will show.Usually cut it in half. That will make the pics small enough to load.

Ok Thanks. I believe the the box is a circut breaker. The green wire is already connected to ot and the black and yellow/white is loose. would I connect both tje black and yellow/white to the neg. side?

Also I have never worked on a boat motor but I have expirience w all sorts of motors like 4wheeler, motorcycle, mower, my cummins diesel. So the job i spoke of is it possible for someone like myself to do & is there any threads on here to help on a job like that?

Re: couple questions

Ok about the trolling motor. Its a 45 lb. motor guide foot pedal 12v or 24v. The 3 wires attaching to the male plug at the bow coming from trolling motor is red, white, & black (normal). The wires going from the female plug to the back of the boat to connect to the battery is green, yellow, & black.
My question is this when i plug the male end into the female end the wires line up like this. red to green, white to yellow, & black to black.

So if i want to hook it up for 24v i would run the green to? & the yellow & black to? Thanks for the help
