Will Pennzoil marine grease be ok to grease the coupler with? Reading the owners manual it calls for Mercury coupler grease.

lol. I haven't found any of that Bond-o grease at a local store yet; got to best made grease around. I didn't know if there was a special additive in the Mercury coupler grease that made it any better than marine grease.

The merc. grease is high pressure grease. Any grease is better than none, But the high pressure grease is better for the coupler application. It isn't as easily squeezed out and regular grease.

Yes, it will work, and work well. I used Pennzoil Marine grease for everything on my boat, for 8 years and 650 hours, no failures. (Boat was 12 years old with 800+ hours total on it when I sold it)

Re: Coupler grease.

I've used the Pennzoil stuff in the gimble bearing and trailer wheel bearings without any problems but I use the OMC/Bombardier triple guard grease on the driveshaft splines; it's a thicker grease that probably holds up better...similar to the Merc spline grease...but as long as you do the gimble...ujoints...splines/coupler ONCE A SEASON....then any of the marine greases will work well...it's when people leave the drive on for 4-5 seasons then the grease dries out and you can have a problem....

Re: Coupler grease.

my merc mech told me that the coupler grease is for sliding parts if you use it on roller bearings it would not allow the balls to turn and flat spot them. It is expensive but if you use it once a year it should last along long time @ 15.00 a tube
