coupling replacement

I've got a 87 3.0 alpha mercruiser and I'm wondering if I have to pull the engine to replace the coupler.

Since the coupler is bolted to the flywheel, the answer is yes.
You also have to pull the drive.

thanks... I didn't know if there is enough clearance to do it in the boat.

If you changng the Coupler,..... It'll need to be Aligned,.......
That's done Thru the Hole(gimbel bearing) in the transom, When the Outdrive is Off........
And,........
The Rear Motor Mounts can Not Possibly be assembled properly when you slide the Motor onto the Outdrive shaft,...
Vs. sliding the Shaft Into the Coupler.........
After it's been Aligned of course........................;)
