Hi all,

I searched and can't find any opinions. What are the advantages and uses for a drift boat. This is more just to ease my mind and learn as much as I can. I see advantages and disadvantages to all other styles of boats, but can't figure out the drift boat over a standard alum. fishing boat.

Thoughts and opinions???

Thanks!

Drift boats are pretty much purpose specific...Rivers. In the hands of a good rower they are pure poetry on a river. Handle great, turn on a dime. Or if there like me all you hear is metal beating on rocks in the canyon. But, I'm learning. They have a very small contact with water with allows them to handle well, turn on a dime, and they can be rowed forward or aft. A utility V is not desinged to turn or be rowed backward. I have never tried a drift on a lake and doubt I ever will as they are expensive ($4000 +) and a V hull does just fine on lakes and they are better designed to accept a motor.

I see your in Grants pass. If you want to run the Rogue and are in wild scenic river or don't wan't a motor then they are a good choice. But there is a learning curve which happens quick when you enter a class 4.

Yeah.... I'm more of a raft guy when I'm on the river. One reason I LOVE living here. Sadly I haven't hit the river even once this year. To busy with my new thing...... LAKES! Buying a boat for that REAL soon!

Have fun with that to. I spend about a week a year on the Owyhee. I just row and enjoy the quiet. Don't wan't to interupt it with fishing unless I need to eat. But after that I'm all about lake fishing.
