Hello,

I just purchased a very nice 1999 GS-201. Can anyone tell me about the cloth material that was used for the cover and bimini? Is it Sunbrella fabric? How do you clean it? Do you suggest waterproofing it with something like 303 Fabric Protector?

Thanks,
Dave

Re: Cover Cleaning

The material on my boat is not Sunbrella. I just cleaned it a couple of months ago, but I can't remember the name on the label. Anyhow it cleaned up well with a brush and some laundry detergent in my driveway. I used a pressure washer to get the hard stains. I recommend coating it after you clean it, since I believe that washing it will remove some of the water proofing. I coated mine with some 303 after it completely dried. The 303 is the best stuff I've found for covers. It will make water bead for a long time, and makes the cover easier to clean.............just wish it wasn't so expensive. It took 2 bottles to do both parts of mine.

Thanks Ernest T. I contacted Hurricane/Godfrey Customer Service and they told me it was Sunbrella. Maybe they changed it for later year models.

I've also used 303 Fabric Protector on my previous boat and it worked great.

If you go on the Sunbrella site they have good instructions for cleaning the cover. You can actually do it in a large washer at a laundermat. 303 is the best product to use afterward in my opinion

Re: Cover Cleaning

[SUP]I just purchased a 201 hurricane today, my cover was down in the storage area wet, but I threw it in the Washer on warm/warm, it was pretty nasty, even though it was set to delicate after 2 cycles,it came out pretty good. I will definitely be getting some 303 since you guys recommend it.

BTW mine is a 1998, but the thing is in SPECTACULAR shape, I love it.:)[/SUP]

Congrats on your 201! I bought my '99 GS-201 last year and I'm very happy with it. What detergent did you use for the cover? Sunbrella recommends Woolite so that's what I'm planning to use this spring. I used 303 Fabric Protector on the motor cover last summer and it works great.

I have a Front Load High Effeciency Washer, It has 3 seperate tray parts for different detergents.

I used max load fill for Tide HE liquid soap, about a table spoon of bleach in it's compartment, and about 1/4 cup of softener in the other. I did not know about the woolite, I will use that from now on.
