Just purchased 240 sundeck. Can or should I leave carpet in or out? While towing rear carpet came unsnapped so I pulled it all up put in compartment and kept going. First, pros and cons of carpet? Can I tow with bow door closed, would this help? Really don"t care to cover up to travel 30 minutes to lake. Took boat out this past saturday and am very pleased. Can't wait for warmer waters. Oh, located in central Louisiana, anyone else?

I leave my windshield closed, the carpet snapped down, and no cover while traveling. Only pull the carpet out for cleaning purposes. If it's getting air under a certain area... just add another snap! Or swing it by an upolstery shop and they would probably throw in a snap for nothing.

I would definately leave the carpet down for at the ride home. The sun and wind blowing over it in transit will help dry the carpet out after a day of use. If you like the carpet, add some extra snaps or replace the ones you have, or put something heavy like a cooler over the area that is blowing up.

Always tow with your windshield pass through closed and secured. All it takes is that wierd gust of wind froma passing truck or whatever to lift it up a bit and slam it back to the windshield breaking both pieces of glass.
Personally, if you have an easy snap on cover I'd cover it just for that reason, , so nothing flies out. It probably tows better with a cover on anyway.

Re: covered or uncovered?

I keep my carpet snapped in only because my feet are the flatest on the planet and a hard surface is excruciating and I won't wear shoes in the boat. If I were thinking ahead, I'd find a nice small rug to set in the helm floor. The boat is easier to clean with the carpet out and you don't have to worry about cleaning food or drink stains when the carpet is not there. As for trailering, my carpet doesn't come unsnapped by the wind however I trailer with the bow cover and the mooring cover snapped on and obviously with the windshield closed. Neither the bow cover or the mooring cover are intended to be used while towing which results in snaps not quite holding as tight over so many years of this and potentially chafing on the fiberglass. I trailer covered for a few reasons. One because I end up on long, dirt roads many times, two because it always seems to rain while towing, and three because after a long trip on the boat, I don't want to stow everything back away while at the access. That said, there was a good article in 'Boating' magazine a couple years back following a professional fisherman who tows tens of thousands of miles yearly. That guy never used a cover.
