I have a short length of wires (8") that is running on the boat floor that I want to cover so as not to trip over these things. These are 2 good sized (2ga.) trolling motor wires. Any ideas on what/how to cover these? Thanks, Joe.

Re: Covering wires

The only problem I se is that whatever you cover them with, will now become the trip hazard.

You could take a piece of 2 inch PVC pipe, cut it in half lengthwise, and anchor it over the cables. It would protect the cables, allow for air circulation, and you would reduce the tripping and tangling hazard. It can be painted and then polyureathaned to protect the paint.

Do you have carpet you can run it under? if not, maybe time to consider..

Also maybe run them at the juncture of hull and deck where its out of the way.. glue it down or silicon or something similiar..

rgds

Franki

Re: Covering wires

It may be the same stuff Crab Bait is referring to but when contractors use electric cables during road works for temporary traffic lights they protect the cables in a "flat triangular" conduit that enables cars to drive over without damaging the cables. Because of its cross section it also reduces the "trip hazard"

Re: Covering wires

JHL, how about simply fixing them down with thick duct take (along the length of the wires). It may look a little temporary, however it will last and you can always remove/replace/reposition if you need to later on. The downside of some of the other methods available is that they actually increase the size/bulk of the trip hazard which is sorta self-defeating.

best of luck.
T
